BROOK MEADOW CONSERVATION GROUP

ANNUAL GENERAL MEETING 3rd October, 2007

TREASURER'S REPORT

Treasurer's report for the financial year 2006-2007

INCOME

Income from subscriptions totalled £1026 in this financial year.

Donations totalled £1182.50 which included a very generous sum of £420 given by members of the Young family in memory of Eric Young who died last December.

The only other income this year came from the sale of I.D. cards at various events.

Grants

Although no grants were received in the current year, we are due to receive a refund in respect of our public liability insurance costs shortly from HBC.

EXPENDITURE

Expenditure was relatively low this year as there was no May Day event and the Northern Parade school visit was cancelled due to bad weather. Most training costs have been paid for by the Havant Conservation Action Project thereby reducing our expenditure. They also paid for a new banner which was used for the first time at the Emsworth Show.

Frances Jannaway and David Search attended a training day at Sticky Wicket in Dorset on making wildflower meadows. A book published by the creator is available for viewing.

As in previous years, insurance costs formed a substantial part of the group's expenditure. The insurance and BTCV membership subscription shown in the income and expenditure statement of the financial year under review was actually paid in the previous financial year. And since this amount for next year has already been paid, it has been included in the balance sheet on the asset side as a prepayment item, with a total value of £311.54

General expenditure:

The highest single outlay is for printing and stationery which includes the cost of producing the regular newsletters.

The public relations figure includes a contribution towards the cost of the photos in the signcases, new signcase windows and extra Web-space.

The power scythe service and new waders are in the cost of tools and equipment.

The cost of the memorial seat was paid for from the Young family donations.

A dog bag dispenser was installed by Havant Borough Council during the year and they normally supply the bags but at the end of their financial year, they ran out of funds so we purchased one box of bags to keep us going until April.

Income less expenditure resulted in a surplus of £483.79 which is carried forward to the Balance Sheet. The Bonus Saver account has accrued interest of £120.42 in the year.

THE FUTURE

A Power scythe attachment is on order which incorporates a scrub cutter. This will be more effective in some areas of the meadow and is kinder to wildlife.

It is also intended to purchase survey equipment such as bat detector boxes.

Money may also be acquired to deal with an area of "No-mans land" which contains problem trees overhanging the river.

I have examined the Income and Expenditure Account and Balance Sheet of the Brook Meadow Conservation Group for the year ended 31st August 2007 and, in the light of the records and explanations given to me by the Treasurer, conclude that they provide a true and fair view of the Group's finances during the year.
